The Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation deeply admires the Nimoy Family's work in bringing COPD to the forefront through education and awareness. Concerns around chronic illness such as COPD are embedded in our VCHW Foundation's Health Mission.
Collectively, the communities that makeup Vulcan County in Alberta, Canada, have built a 7 million (CDN) dollar Wellness Centre addition (14,000 sq. ft.) to our existing Community Health Centre (Hospital). This expansion has been the result of 10 years of Volunteer planning along with local Donor fundraising. Monumental for a community of our size. The concept of a Wellness Centre connected to an existing Hospital is new to Alberta and the first of its kind in "Rural Alberta."
Vulcan aims to be a "Smart Community" by 2030. Health is a pillar in the Town of Vulcan's "Smart Plan."
One of our biggest challenges is to connect quality Health Care in rural areas.
The Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation comprises a volunteer board of 14 individuals from the 50 KLM radius that is Vulcan County. We are a Canada Revenue registered charity; we are registered under the Health Regulatory Act of The Province of Alberta, Canada. We produce public financials vetted by the Alberta Health Services Board under the Minister of Health. We are project-based and goal-oriented to respond strategically and efficiently to the needs of the community. This ensures that Donor dollars attain maximum benefit for their contribution through the Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation. Health is the one equalizer, the topic that affects and aligns us all.
We also believe now, more than ever, as the world grapples with the effects of COVID-19 and the known and unknown long-term impacts on respiratory health, now is the time for more education and awareness.
We do not know what the future holds, but good practices for preventing respiratory complications now and in the future are essential.
To that end, we could not be more excited to announce the "Remembering Leonard Nimoy Wellness Academy" will reside virtually and in the physical space, within the Vulcan Community Health Centre, under the Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation.
